How to Make Dal Chawal (Lentils and Rice) – Step-by-Step Recipe

Step 1: Prepare the Rice
Rinse the rice thoroughly under cold water until the water runs clear. This helps remove excess starch and ensures the rice cooks perfectly.
In a pot or rice cooker, add 1 cup basmati rice, 2 cups water, and a pinch of salt. If using a stovetop, bring the water to a boil, then cover and reduce the heat to low. Let it simmer for about 12-15 minutes or until the rice is soft and all the water has been absorbed.
Once the rice is cooked, remove from heat and let it sit for 5 minutes. Fluff the rice with a fork before serving.
